![]() ![]() Here's the USB bluetooth adapter I'm using, a Trendnet TBW-105UB. I used some epoxy at the base of the LED to make it a bit more stable. Inside the pen is a single AA battery for power.Ī closeup of the LED and switch. Here's a wide shot of the completed pen for reference:Ī closeup shot next to a AA battery for size. Parts constructionUnfortunatly, I didn't take any photos during the main construction of the pen, but it's not a difficult device to understand. Using some special software, detection of the infrared light will be translated as a mouse button press. Using the two, the Wii controller will be able to detect the location of the pen tip and transmit that data to a computer. You can pair it with a bluetooth capable computer, or use a USB to bluetooth adapter if your computer does not have bluetooth built in.The LED, switch, and dry erase marker will be used to create a pen input device that emmits infrared light when the switch is depressed. The Nintendo Wii controller is a bluetooth enabled device that has an infrared sensitive camera in it's tip. BTW The WiiMote software for Windows (Smoothboard) is not free, but I would gladly pay what they are asking if I could get it to work in Linux. What if you could turn each of your existing labs with ceiling mounted projectors into interactive smartboards? And what if you could do it for around $55? My goal is to have all Linux apps and not use Windows for anything, but this WiiMote Whiteboard project seems to be the one project that kills that idea-unless someone can come up with an adequate solution. I sure would like to be able to have a Linux-powered interactive whiteboard for teaching, but so far I have come up empty-handed. Of course, if I can get something that works in Linux for free, I would be very happy! What can any of you come up with? BTW The WiiMote software for Windows (Smoothboard) is not free, but I would gladly pay what they are asking if I could get it to work in Linux. ![]() There is supposedly some kind of Java app that will work in Linux, but I haven't got it figured out. Does anyone have any suggestions on what software I can use? Does anyone know if the Windows version of WiiMote software (Smoothboard) can be run through WINE? Smoothboard sounds exciting, but there is no Linux version of the software, and there are no plans to create any. However, here is the catch: I am using Linux Mint, and have not been successful in finding WiiMote Whiteboard software that will work in Linux Mint. As a teacher, I have several uses in mind already! There are videos online that will take you through the process of constructing these for around $100 (or less, depending on how much you want to do yourself). ![]() I recently found out about building IR pens and interactive whiteboards using a Wii remote. Please forgive me if I posted this in the wrong spot-I am a new member and this seemed like the best place to post this. ![]()
